When I first think of convertible sofa beds, I think hide-a-beds, really heavy, and those brown patterned sofa beds from the 1980's - not attractive but still out there in student apartments. A sofa bed serves a great purpose, a couch by day and an extra bed at night for guests when you do not have extra room. So you want comfort and function, not always easy to accomplish. But the industry is always trying, so there are several options on the market of different types of convertible sofa beds.
Since I grew up during the 1970's and 1980's, the first type I think of is like the one I mentioned above: a pull out sofa bed. It looks like a normal couch, but then you remove the cushions and there is a bed that can be pulled out from the bottom of the sofa. The mattress on these is not as thick as a regular mattress, they usually range from 4" to 6", and they vary in comfort. They are always more comfortable if they are newer, and more expensive ones tend to have better quality mattresses. I have slept on this type of convertible sofa bed with various results. Some I could hardly move in the morning, and other I woke up feeling like a spring chicken. One really nice thing about this style is that if you use it regularly, you can leave it made up with sheets and blankets. This style most commonly comes in either a full or queen size bed, though you can also get a love seat that has a twin bed inside. You can also get these as part of a sectional.
When we owned a used furniture store, I came across another style of convertible sofa bed that I had completely forgotten about, the click clack style. I am pretty sure that the name comes from the sound that they make when they are converted from sofa to bed: click-clack-click-clack ... In this style there is a special type of hinging mechanism that allows the back of the sofa to lie flat. The early style of these have been around for about 60 years, but there are modern versions that are quite innovative. I have seen some, after they are converted into a bed, will have one side (not the back) that hinges up to a 45 degree angle to make more of a chaise lounge style, or that props a person up to more easily watch TV or read. One advantage to these over the pull out bed is that they take up less room to convert from sofa to bed. One challenge for manufacturers is to make the bed feel flat, no bump in the middle where the bottom and back of the sofa meet.
Another style of convertible sofa beds that became popular in the 1990's is the futon, which I believe originated in Japan. They convert the same way as a click clack bed, but typically have an all wood, or wood and metal frame. A "mattress" sits on the frame and bends in the middle when it is set up as a sofa. When you lay the frame flat, you have a bed with a regular, one piece mattress. Futons sometimes get a bad rap for not being comfortable, but only if you get the $100 special from a discount store. Those just don't last long, they have wimpy frames and only a 4" mattress. A really good quality futon will have about an 8" mattress, often with coils like a real mattress. These are quite comfortable for sleeping.
These are the three main styles of convertible sofa beds, and if you are in the market for one, you will find that they can be quite stylish, very comfortable and come in a variety of materials. Something to suit anybody.

Baby Safety in the Home
All parents strive to keep their baby safe at all times and everywhere they go. Baby will spend most of her time at home and it is important to keep the following things in mind as you prepare your home for your child.
Electrical outlets are a hazard for your baby. Babies explore their worlds by using their fingers and electrical outlets are very tempting. You can buy outlet covers at most discount and hardware stores. Along with covering up the outlets, watch for electrical cords hanging down within baby's reach. Baby can get tangled in the cords and injure or strangle him/herself, as well as pull an object down on him/herself. If your baby is in a walker, make sure all cords are out of reach of the baby as he/she reaches out from in the walker.
Other hazards for your baby are cleaners, home chemicals and medications. Make sure you keep all cleansers, chemicals, and prescription and non-prescription medications out of baby's reach. Even with cupboard latches, it is always best to keep dangerous materials out of your child's reach.
Windows with or without screens can be hazardous to a baby. If the baby is able to push on or lean against the screen or go near an open window, you will need to prevent baby from getting access to the window. It is not uncommon to hear on the news that a baby has fallen from a window and gotten seriously injured or killed by the fall.
Once your baby is crawling, open or unlatched doors are a danger to your baby. Little fingers can get pinched in doorways. Make sure you hook or latch the door or screen door high enough that the baby cannot unlatch it or somehow get the door open.
Know your pet and his temperament and. If you are not able to be in the same room as both your baby and pet, it is safest to keep your baby away from your pet.
If you have other children, make sure they know your "rules" about how to handle the baby, what is safe for the baby, and what is not safe. Being a big brother or sister carries with it a responsibility of keeping the baby safe and helping mother and father do so, and this responsibility usually lies with the parent(s)/caregiver if the sibling is quite young.
When anyone on the premises is using a vehicle or lawn tractor, make sure your baby is not in the path of these vehicles. The best protection is for the caregiver to know where the baby is located at all times and to protect him from all danger. Your baby should be placed somewhere the caregiver knows is safe such as a play yard or swing if you need to leave the room for a few moments. Accidents can happen quickly and can be severe.
Being a parent/caregiver for a baby is a huge responsibility; take your responsibility very seriously.

Pests like bugs, termite, fleas, cockroaches, ants, rats, rodents, mice and many other insects create a nuisance in your house and make your life miserable. These pests multiply day by day and make your house unhygienic and invite several diseases as these pests infect your food and other eatable in your house. These roam around freely in your kitchen, bedroom or living rooms and most of the pests spoil your wood furniture too! its time to act now, choose a perfect pest control company that helps you get rid of this nuisance immediately before it causes a major threat to you and your family. The pest control company should have effective ways to manage, control and eradicate pest forever. But how will you choose the right pest control company? Well, here are a few suggestions that might help you to take a sensible decision: - Costs: Cost is the main factor that comes to your mind while choosing a pest control company. You need to think whether the fee charged by any company is within your budget. Once you know the price you can check its worth by the services they offer you. - Service: After you know the fees they charge you, you need to know what kind of services and treatments they will offer. See if the company charges you for the entire house pest control treatment, that is inside and the outside of the house or do they charge you something extra for the internal treatments too. However, a good company should charge you for your lawns or gardens and groundwork treatment. This depicts their capability and confidence in effective treatment methods they offer, thus keeping pests away forever. - Type of treatment: You need to know the type of treatment they offer and also know the chemicals they use for pest control. Check if the chemical include a warning label and if it does have, its sensible to search some other pest control services. Look for the company that offers you environmental friendly products and chemicals for treatment methods and remember, you are eradicating the problem and not inviting worries. - Schedule: Be sure the company offers prompt and quick services or provides treatment on the appointment date only. This shows that the company values time and respects your convenience too. If the problem is too serious, they should offer you instant services, this proves the authenticity of the company. They should be regular at work and provide effective treatment methods so as to help you live a tension free life. Remember, to live in hygienic conditions is of utmost importance. If you are living in healthy atmosphere, you are free from any kind of disease. The main cause of major health problems is how well you maintain your hygiene. As wisely said "Cleanliness is next to Godliness", you should maintain a clean and healthy environment where you live. It is not sufficient to keep the interiors of your home clean, you should also maintain the exteriors of your home like your lawns and gardens. So choose the right pest control company that has effective solutions to maintain first class hygiene for your family.
"Why Are You Doing Everything Yourself?"
I know for some of you 'control freaks' out there this one's gonna be tough for you. But read on! You might find how EASY this can be, really.
When I finally gave in to delegating from my extremely 'do-it-myself' mentality at first I admit it was a bit hard. I was always double checking things and everyone around me to make sure they were doing it 'right'. I probably drove my first Virtual Assistant absolutely NUTS!
However my coach at the time kept showing me how important it was to become really successful in my business, and to make a six or seven figure income, that I needed to surround myself with experts and a support team of people who could take on all the things in my business (and my life!) that:
- I didn't like to do
- I didn't want to do
- I didn't know how to do or
- That someone could do BETTER AND FASTER than me!
So, one day I put together a list of things like this and to my surprise the list was quite long! It was kind of a 'wish list' so to speak that if I could wish for someone else to do these things, then it would free me up to do the things I LOVE TO DO which is brainstorm and consult with clients on new ideas they can implement to get them more business!
Plus I had a TON OF IDEAS to implement in my own business too - but there was never enough time in the day/week to get to ANY of them! This bummed me out. I knew that it would take me years to implement all the great ideas I had if I continued to do it all myself.
I just saw an article that Ali Brown wrote (and I'm not including it here but I'm giving her credit for this part!), she's an expert at this delegation and virtual team building stuff, and she mentions there are 5 things you MUST DO to overcome being a CONTROL FREAK:
-- First, you have to change your MINDSET
-- Second, you have to know WHAT'S MORE IMPORTANT
-- Third, you have to hire the RIGHT PEOPLE
-- Fourth, you have to have SYSTEMS
-- Fifth, you have to have TRUST
Here is my main list of tasks that I typically will delegate to a Virtual Assistant, copywriter, web designer or some other support team member of mine - it's fabulous - you should try it!
- Bookkeeping: tracking expenses, sales and tax records
- Internet research to get me better SEO, more traffic, etc.
- Article Marketing all my current articles, shuffling them around, refreshing them
- Maintaining my customer mailing lists on an easy to use database
- Creating extra pages on my website as needed
- Handling recordings of teleclasses, burning CD's, mailings, etc.
- Handling bounced emials from Constant Contact, updating with new
- Formatting e-books and other online products
- Designing PowerPoint presentations
- Sending out ebirthday greetings to clients
- Handwriting follow up notes and mailing out postcards
- Data entry of all new contacts
- Transcribing teleclasses
- Posting on blogs, forums and social/biz networking sites
- Developing my Networking Calendar every month
- Managing my shopping cart account and merchant account as needed
- Creating Google Alerts
- Proofreading
- Updating my YouTube page, videos and adding technology to my website
- Submitting press releases online or locally
So, what's on your plate that you shouldn't be doing, hate doing or aren't really that good at doing that you should DELEGATE??? And don't forget about the personal tasks too like housekeeping, landscaping/mowing, shopping, cooking, making travel plans, errand running, etc. - you can pay someone to do ALL OF THIS you know? Ask yourself "What is YOUR time worth?" and free it up to do BIGGER AND BETTER THINGS!

Is Pepper Spray or Mace the Best Buy?
What Is Mace?
First off, Mace is a brand name of Mace Security International. The word Mace has become generic like Kleenex is for facial tissues. Mace is a variant of tear gas and is made by several companies. Tear gas is made from two chemicals called CN and CS. Tear gas is a popular crowd control agent or for removing people from buildings. It causes irritation to the nose, eyes, throat and lungs. Chemical Mace makes a person feel like they can't catch their breath.
Mace turns partially to a vapor when it is released and consequently doesn't need to be in direct contact with the assaulter's face for it to work. If the vapor blows into the assailants eyes and nose the effects will be accomplished. Nevertheless, because most vapors can be avoided for a while by holding your breath and closing your eyes tightly or until the wind disperses the spray. Pepper spray doesn't emit fumes and doesn't disperse with time. But, it must be sprayed on to the aggressor's face to be effective.
Mace requires from five to 30 seconds to act and this could give the attacker time to grab you and/or the mace. The effects of mace lasts longer than the pepper spray and may endure for several days. When the pepper spray has been washed off, its effects are short-lived.
Chemical Mace is regulated more rigorously than pepper spray and is unlawful in some states.
What Is Pepper Spray?
Pepper spray is a chemical called OC (Oleoresin Capsicum). It is an oil-based product made from hot peppers. It is categorized as an inflammatory chemical. It causes inflammation of the eyes, nose and throat immediately upon skin contact.
Pepper spray will bring down a attacker that's on drugs or intoxicated. Mace might not have an effect on assailants that are drunk or high. A one-second blast of pepper spray into an attacker's face will typically disable a person for fifteen minutes to one hour. The pepper spray causes profound coughing, nausea, dilation of the eyeballs inducing temporary blindness. The membranes in the attacker's nose and throat will swell up to the point where they can scarcely breathe.
These responses to pepper spray are entirely involuntary and the attacker can't control the reaction. Nonetheless, the level of the response is dependent upon a persons tolerance to inflammatory agents. A few people have a greater tolerance than other people have and may need to be pepper sprayed a couple of times before becoming incapacitated.
Pepper sprays are used extensively in law enforcement and are nonfatal. They are legal in most states. Some state regulate the use and ownership of pepper sprays. You should check with your local police force to ascertain if there are regulations and what they are.
Like any self-protection product there are some limitations and consequently should be just one a few personal protection devices. It may take 3 or 4 seconds for the pepper spray to work. You want to be prepared for the assailant to attempt to take it from you. If you're outdoors, rain and/or wind can dilute the effects. If the wind is blowing your way, you may end up being sprayed as much as the assailant.
Perhaps I Had Better Get Both.
This is now possible in one product known as Triple Action Mace? from Mace Security International. Triple Action Mace? is a combination of the pepper spray's OC and CN from mace. It also contains a UV Marking Dye that can be seen with a black light when the police apprehend the attacker. The combined effects are annihilating and quick. The pepper spray is quick acting and automatic and the mace keeps the attacker incapacitated longer.
The invention of Triple Action mace solves the all problems of mace and pepper spray except for the wind direction.

Dry your clothes the natural way
Drying clothes where there is no outdoor space or when it's raining has always been troublesome. However, as we are all realising the environmental impact of using a tumble dryer, there has been resurgence in old-fashioned methods such as the clothes airer or clotheshorse.
Whilst there are always going to be some who love the ease of the modern household whitegoods such as the electricity hungry tumble dryer and the labour saving washer/dryer, there are those of us that simply wish to return to a more natural way of life and make less of an environmental impact.
Figures from the EU state that if you dry your clothes naturally, such as using a clothes airier instead of a tumble dryer, you can save about 280 kg of CO2 per year.
However, drying clothes doesn't mean we have to clutter our homes with damp washing. Nostalgic in their appearance eco clothes airers are not merely a better looking alternative to the standard clotheshorse that is resident in most households - they dry your washing faster and don't take up any floor space.
Ceiling mounted eco clothes airers use the rising heat in our home to dry clothes and placing them nearer a heat source will dry washing even faster.
There are a more advantages too:
They are ideal for those who prefer to keep their washing out of the sight of nosey neighbours.
Good for people with a disability that prevents them from going outside laden down with washing.
* No need to run outside when black clouds are looming
* Put your washing out before you go to work without worrying what the weather will do
* Silent clothes drying, no clanking and rattling of a noisy tumble dryer,
* Free up your floor space
* Leave the radiators to heat the room, not your washing
* Dry clothes faster than a conventional clotheshorse
* No need to maintain, or even buy an expensive tumble dryer
* Make huge savings on your electricity bill
There are various designs of eco clothes airers on the market, most of them sticking to the traditional style with 6 shaped and smoothed laths, some with quality cast iron ends and pulleys can hold up to 30kg (66Ib) of wet washing so can easily accommodate the weekly output of a large family wash with ease.
So instead of wasting all that heat 'trapped' against your ceiling, make use of this free energy, save money and make another step towards your greener home and use an eco clothes airer.

What Is A Bidet?
The bidet is a very old fixture that was invented centuries ago and is now used throughout Europe using the latest technology. It is not popular in the States yet, but you will find that it offers you a more hygienic option for your toilet. It is not only hygienic, but it is offered in the latest designs and materials to complement any bathroom.
The bidet has existed for a very long while. Marc-Antoine Jacoud is commonly referred to as the person who created it. The bidet seems to have come out of the work of furniture creators in France during the seventeenth century. No definitive date, however, is known. There was one furniture creator who worked for the Royal Family, one Des Rosiers, who may have been the real inventor. It is hard to know for sure as written accounts only begin in 1710. By the nineteen hundreds, due to advancements in plumbing, the bidet became a bathroom rather than a bedroom fixture. In 1960, the bidet became electronic, complete with an attachment which would expand on a regular toilet.
It is a simple contraption that sends a gentle stream of water to wash you after your done with the toilet. In Europe you'll find it common as either a separate fixture or as part of the toilet bowl. You may think this sounds very odd, and for those who haven't tried it, I don't blame you, but it is in fact more hygienic than using toilet paper and the technology is now so advanced that many don't use toilet paper at all.
You can select from a spectrum of features and styles. Be advised that bidets are key style features for bathrooms in some of the most upscale places in the world. In fact, in some countries, you'll find bidets are available in public bathrooms. And to add to your new pleasure of using the toilet, you can have heated seats, pulsating streams, adjustable temperature streams and even built in dryers. And the toilets can come in pretty well any design or material you could want in your bathroom. These of course come at a cost, so it's worthwhile investigating the options that suit both your requirements and your budget.
If you still have your doubts you can purchase a bidet seat. You place the faucet onto the seat of the toilet, this prevents you from having to buy a new toilet. There are now a wide range of these seats so that you can have all the convenience of a bidet, without changing your toilet.
If you're still not convinced, then next time you're on a trip to Europe, instead of avoiding the bidet, give it a go and see what you think. It may alter your use of the john for all time!

Why Our Lovers Are Attracted to Our Best Friends
In the movie, "Hope Floats," with Sandra Bullock, her husband walks out to pursue a relationship with her best friend. Ouch! Unfortunately, this is a common happening. Infidelity is painful enough without your best friend being the other person. Do you know of anyone who has had this painful experience?
As a Marriage, Family Therapist, I had the opportunity to uncover this problem with clients. For example, Frank and his wife bought a resort in the country. They hired his best friend, John, to assist her while he continued his job in the city to support their investment. The couple was planning to retire there in 10 years.
Frank made the long trip to the resort most weekends. A year later, his wife, Elizabeth, filed for divorce. Besides feeling terrible that his dream was shattered, he was devastated to find out why. John and his wife had been lovers and intended to get married.
Susan loved her younger sister, Hannah, and felt she was her best friend. The computer salesperson was shocked to discover that Hannah, who was often jealous of her sister's relationship, was having an affair with her husband.
These are just some examples of the many cases of this phenomenon. Why would our best friends be disloyal to us? There are no excuses for this unfaithful behavior. However, it helps to understand the contributing factors.
I discovered that our friends are often a lot like us. They focus on the same things and have similar strengths and interests. People who are right-brain dominant live a lot in their feelings and creativity and are more likely to have friends who are also that way. Men and women who are dominant left-brain are more attracted to friends who are also very mental and logical.
To the contrary, lovers are likely to have the opposite strengths to balance each other. We have often heard the expression, "Opposites attract." For example, Frank and his best friend, John, were both left-brain dominant. However, his wife was right-brain dominant. John's personality was very similar to Frank's. Since his wife Elizabeth was attracted to Frank, she was also open to loving John.
It is the same scenario with Susan and her sister who were both very pretty and very much alike. Her husband was easily drawn to Hannah.
Another factor is that your best friends and siblings often spend time a lot of time with you and your partner. Therefore, it is easy for your lover to get involved with them.
Finally, I also discovered that, in all the cases, the couples' relationships had problems that were not being resolved. In fact, that truth came out in the movie with Sandra Bullock. Both of them were feeling unfulfilled when her husband had an affair with her best friend.
The key here is to keep your relationship alive and resolve any problems. People usually do not go looking elsewhere when they are happy and fulfilled. Also, be aware of friends who express their jealousy of your relationship. Their insecurities may supersede their loyalty to you.
Finally, if your lover leaves you for another, especially for your best friend, they obviously cannot be trusted to be in integrity and loyal to you. They are likely to demonstrate the same insensitive negative behavior with your best friend. Once you heal the hurt and learn from your experience, move on to a healthier partner and create a more successful relationship. No matter what others do or say, you are lovable and you deserve a loving, long lasting relationship.

Products Made with Ipe with Stand the Test of Time and Elements
When it comes to choosing products for the outdoor areas of your home, it would be difficult to find a product that combines beauty, durability and practicality quite the way that furniture and decking constructed from Ipe wood does. What exactly is Ipe you ask? Well for those who have not heard of this versatile nearly indestructible wood, here’s a crash course.
This is actually a tropical hardwood, pronounced ee-pay, which is found growing throughout Central America and South America as well as certain parts of Asia. Found growing on both ridge tops and riverbanks, Ironwood as it is also called, is also grown easily in managed forests in the parts of the world to which it is indigenous. Not an endangered species, this particular tree offers a good ecological alternative to other tropical hardwoods such as Teak and Mahogany. Since it does grow quite well in a managed environment, responsible American importers of this wood generally purchase their entire stock from harvesters that have been certified through the Forestry Stewardship Council. Certification with the FSC ensures that renewable sources for exotic hardwoods are utilized and is one of the best ways to end exploitive deforestation and encourage responsible forestry practices.
Going by different common names such as Brazilian Walnut, Lapacho, Amapa, Cortez, Guayacan polvillo and Madera negra and trades like Pau Lope, Diamond Decking and Ironwood, this species of tropical tree has a unique dense cell structure that makes it an ideal wood for use outdoors. It is eight times harder than California Redwood and 368% harder than Teak. It is also much less expensive than Teak. The unique cell structure mentioned previously makes this wood so dense that it actually sinks in water. This is also what makes the wood so impervious to infestation by termites and other insects. In tests conducted by the United States Naval Research Laboratory it was found that Ipe wood left in the ground untreated was still without termite infestation after 15 years! The heartwood is extremely resilient and is very resistant to attack by fungi and mold as well.
Because of its extreme resistance to splintering, again due to the tightly arrange cell structure, this wood is ideal for use in outdoor furniture and decking around pools and hot tubs. Another built in safety feature is its slip resistance when wet. Decking made from this tropical hardwood exceeds the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements for Static Coefficient of friction in a wet environment. That is a definite advantage when used in areas where small children frequently run and play.
Though the initial investment may be more than what would be expected if using products of lesser quality, because Ipe wood can be expected to provide a lifetime of use with minimal upkeep, the long term saves add up quickly since any outdoor project that uses this wood should never need to be replaced. Leaving you with not only extra money but also extra time to spend enjoying your outdoor furniture and decking rather than working on it.

Laying Marble Tiles Can Be Done By Anybody !
Many people have found that they would much rather maintain and remodel their own house themselves then have someone else come in to do it for them. The reasons for this are as follows. The first reason being is that there are vast amounts of money to be saved when the homeowner instead of the contractor does the work. The second reason is the personal satisfaction that comes with doing the work on your own. This can be done when you take on a task that you though you could not do and complete it.Because of these reasons, many people are finding that they are trying their luck at laying marble tiles.
There are generally two reasons for this. The first reason being is that there is an incredible amount of money to be saved when the homeowner instead of a contractor does the work.
The second reason is that there is some personal satisfaction that comes with doing the work on your own. Because of these reasons, many people are finding that they are trying their luck at laying marble tiles themselves.
Marble tiles may not be something that you are used to working with but with a little bit of knowledge gained from various sources and the right tools you can do just about anything.
Since this material is always chosen for its look and beauty and it's cooling advantages, you are probably glad to get started. You will of course want to take your time though, as even the most experienced marble installer can mess things up from time to time. Take it slow and you will bank yourself a fortune and save yourself frustration in the end.
The most important thing you can do when preparing to lay marble tiles is the preparation. The preparation work is one of the most important steps. If you are not starting out with the right surface then the whole project might as well be tossed out.
Its very important to have a dry, clean, and the surface must be level. Uneven surfaces will result in cracked tiles. If the surface is not clean the result will be that the marble tile will loosen. If these mistakes happen you have cost yourself a lot of money and you will probably have to do the entire project all over again.
When laying marble tiles it is important to make sure that you are playing around enough. This is your chance to get the exact design that you want. You can source design ideas from magazines or be completely orginal and draft one out all on your own.
Before laying marble tiles you will want to play with the design until you get it perfect. Also make sure that once you begin to lie the tile down that you are using spacers in order to produce high quality work.
The next thing on the list is to decide whether you want to use concrete or grout. When applying the grout or concrete you want to make sure that you are being extra careful.
Once you are ready to clean your marble tiles you need to be extremely careful when picking the type of cleaner to use. The wrong cleaner could in fact damage the marble tiles or give it a foggy appearance. Since neither of those are situations you want to face, make sure that you are being extra cautious.
Make sure that you are taking advantage of all of the helpful hints out there. When contemplating laying marble tiles you need to read and watch everything so you can learn about it.
Also make sure to look for the required tools and equipment needed to carry out this home improvement so you can complete it with ease.
